Our History & Philosophy
Jeff Turner of Reef Aquaria Design Inc. (RAD) has been designing, fabricating and installing quality custom marine aquariums for over 30 years. His lifetime dedication to the aquarium trade, years of diving and collecting experience, and involvement as VP & COO of Oceans, Reefs and Aquariums, the world's leading supplier of marine ornamental aquacultured aquarium livestock, has profoundly affected the philosophy under which his systems are designed. This is why RAD has a strong commitment to utilize aquacultured ornamental products whenever possible, and strives to acquire and house only responsibly collected marine organisms from reliable sources.
While Mr. Turner continues to serve on the Board of Directors of ORA, his true passion remains creating custom living coral reef ecosystems. Our mission is to provide our customers with the finest Living Reef Aquariums possible and to provide individualized, continuing service and support to each unique aquarium creation.
This 1000 gallon living reef aquarium at
the Miami Children's Museum was built by the staff at Reef Aquaria Design with some assistance from local children. See our

What Sets Us Apart
- Experience has taught us that in order to create an aquarium that will last for years it is important to construct
your system out of glass rather than acrylic. Although acrylic is easier to work with and generally less expensive,
glass is far
more durable. This is an important thing to consider if you are planning on incorporating your aquarium into your home. Glass does not scratch as easily as acrylic, will not develop a haze like acrylic, and it is much more durable from a both a construction and service standpoint. Promoters of acrylic can no longer claim superior clarity in regards to glass.
- All of our aquarium viewing surfaces are manufactured with ultra-clear Starphire® glass. Starphire glass has no lead incorporated in its manufacturing, resulting in its crystal clear look.
- RAD has a total commitment to creating ONLY living reef aquariums that function as thriving ecosystems. We do not create static dead coral or coral replica aquariums. Such systems are designed using outdated filtration methods
which may work well initially, but prove to be a liability in the long run. We design our systems with state-of-the-art components and use the most modern techniques available. The most common problem our customers encounter is having to
prune back the living corals as a result of their phenomenal growth rate! True coral gardening!
- Finally, we at Reef Aquaria Design, Inc. stand apart from the competition because we limit the number of installations per year that we choose to create. This insures that our clients and their aquariums receive a level of personalized service and support that is unsurpassed in the industry.
We welcome you to browse our site and schedule a consultation with us if you would like to be the future owner of a thriving custom Living Coral Reef Aquarium by Reef Aquaria Design!
